In 2017, 58% of homeowners spent a median $15,000 in home renovations. One of the most popular types of renovations that these homeowners consider is remodeling their kitchen. Granite countertops are a beautiful addition to any kitchen renovation project. There are things you’ll need to be aware of before having countertop installers come to your home. Here’s how to prepare for professionals to install granite counter tops in your home.

Preparations Before They Arrive

Before the professionals arrive to install granite countertops, clear a pathway between the entrance of your home and where you will want the work done. Granite can be heavy to lift and move, so it will be easier on the installers if they don’t have to maneuver around a bunch of objects. Cover any nearby items and furniture to protect them against dust that may be kicked up into the air. Make time to be at home while the replacement kitchen countertops are being installed.

What To Expect During Installation

Any existing countertops, cooktops, and sinks will need to be removed prior to new installations. You can do this yourself or have the company do it for you. The only thing that should be left before replacing kitchen countertops is the cabinets. Be aware that if you have laminate countertops with a backsplash, some wall plaster may come off as the old counters are removed. The new granite countertop will cover up any marks that may happen from the plaster.

It’s important that the cabinets are secure and level before the company can replace a kitchen counter. This will prevent the heaviness of the granite stone from tipping the cabinets over while the installation work is being done. Once the cabinets are level, the installers will begin placing the individual pieces while using epoxy to cement the seams together. The installers will then remove any excess epoxy and clean up the area. It can take anywhere from two to seven hours to install a granite countertop from start to finish.

When you are ready to install granite countertops for your kitchen renovation, be sure to look for a reputable company you can trust. Research online reviews and ask family and friends for recommendations. You’ll be able to enjoy a beautiful kitchen for years to come and have the perfect excuse to throw a dinner party for a job well done!
